I am a PhD candidate in Rhetoric, Scientific, and Technical Communication at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. My research is driven by a deep commitment to social justice, with a particular focus on International and Transnational Technical Communication. I view transnational technical communication as a critical framework for examining the complexities of injustice and violence that emerge as technologies and communication infrastructures traverse borders. Through a transnational feminist lens, I strive to engage in actionable social justice work that challenges and reimagines how technical communication operates across global contexts. My work highlights the ways in which power, technology, and knowledge production intersect, particularly in marginalized and transborder communities.

About the GSC

The Graduate Student Committee (GSC) is charged with developing and establishing activities and programming aimed to make a space for and support graduate students in technical, professional, and scientific writing and communication programs. For 2023-2024, the committee is working in multiple areas through four subcommittees:

Mentorship & Professionalization (Lead: Thais Rodrigues Cons, University of Arizona):

This subcommittee is working to structure and develop a mentorship program for graduate students along with other professional development activities such as writing conference proposals, preparing for the job market, and how to contact established scholars in the field.

Space-making (Lead Needed):

This subcommittee works to promote the diverse needs and experiences of graduate students, particularly those who are underrepresented or marginalized within academia, TPC, or their programs.

Outreach (Lead: Dorcas Anabire (she/her), Utah State University):

This subcommittee organizes potential meetups at other conferences, manages a new listserv, and maintains a social media presence.

Writing Support (Lead: Elle Smith, she/her, Utah State University):

This subcommittee is plans and hosts weekly writing accountability groups, helps maintain a repository of GSC documents and genre examples, and helps with posting CFPs for conferences, edited collections, and other opportunities connected to writing opportunities in the field.

If there are activities you would like to see the GSC work on, or you are interested in getting involved with this committee, please contact CPTSC.GSC@gmail.com or either of our co-chairs.
